SPIRALS Team
๐ Time to Reflect
As I wrap up my first two months with the amazing SPIRALS team, I've learned some invaluable lessons that I want to share with you!
These aren't just professional tips โ they're life principles that have fundamentally changed how I approach challenges, relationships, and growth.
I've distilled them into three memorable acronyms (because who doesn't love a good acronym? ๐)
You Are Not Alone
From day one, I was pleasantly surprised by the warm and welcoming atmosphere within SPIRALS.
What this means in practice:
- My supervisors feel more like family than just mentors
- Questions are always welcome โ no such thing as "stupid questions"
- Struggles are shared, not hidden
- Celebrations are collective ๐
This collaborative spirit has been incredible. When I faced my first major technical challenge, I didn't have to figure it out alone. The team rallied together, shared their experiences, and helped me find a solution.
"The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team."

You Should Adapt
Adaptation is key โ not just in our projects but in life! This team embraces giving ourselves time to adjust.
Areas where adaptation was crucial:
- Learning new technologies and frameworks
- Understanding the research methodology
- Navigating a new work culture
- Embracing unforeseen challenges as opportunities
Funny enough, self-adaptation is literally what I research! But applying it to my own life journey gave it a whole new meaning.
Whether it's learning new technologies or navigating unforeseen challenges, flexibility is essential. And the team understands this โ they give you space to grow at your own pace.
Small Steps Make Big Growth
Thanks to Simon, I realized that the path to progress lies in taking small, manageable steps.
How I applied this:
- Broke down the library project into weekly milestones
- Set daily micro-goals instead of overwhelming targets
- Celebrated small wins along the way
- Used iteration instead of perfection
Challenges can seem daunting until you break them down into bite-sized tasks. This approach not only makes the journey less intimidating but also allows for consistent progress.
